Private Jet Ground Transportation in Rhode Island: PVD, Quonset, and Newport State
Flying private into Rhode Island takes the terminal out of your day, but the drive still needs a plan. Private jet ground transportation in Rhode Island runs through three airports: Rhode Island T.F. Green International (PVD) in Warwick, Quonset State Airport in North Kingstown, and Newport State Airport in Middletown. Each has a fixed-base operator (FBO), the private terminal where your chauffeur meets you. Choosing the right airport, and telling your driver exactly where you will land, makes the step from aircraft to car feel effortless.
Which Rhode Island airports handle private flights?
Three state airports handle most private arrivals, all run by the Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC). Their runways and services differ, so the right one depends on your aircraft and where you are headed.
| Airport | Location | Longest runway | FBO | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rhode Island T.F. Green International (PVD) | Warwick, about 6 miles south of Providence | 8,700 ft | Atlantic Aviation | Open 5 a.m. to midnight daily, on call by prior arrangement; customs clears on the ramp |
| Quonset State (OQU) | North Kingstown | 7,500 ft | FlightLevel Aviation | Shared with the Rhode Island Air and Army National Guard |
| Newport State (UUU) | Middletown, next to Newport | Just under 3,000 ft | FlightLevel Aviation | Serves Newport's corporate visitors, festival guests, and boat owners at nearby marinas |
How do you choose between PVD, Quonset, and Newport State?
Start with your destination, then let your aircraft decide. For Providence, Cranston, or a downtown meeting, PVD is the natural fit. It sits about 6 miles south of the city, and on-ramp customs clearance helps international arrivals. Our TF Green airport transportation page covers that route in more detail.
For Newport, Newport State puts you closest to the harbor and Bellevue Avenue. Its longer runway is just under 3,000 feet, though, so your pilot or charter operator will confirm whether your aircraft can use it. Quonset, with a 7,500-foot runway in North Kingstown, is the long-runway option on the west side of Narragansett Bay.
One timing note for Newport regulars: in May 2026, RIAC received a $1,966,339 federal grant to rehabilitate 2,600 feet of Newport State's Runway 4/22. Ask your operator whether runway work is scheduled around your dates.
Can your car meet you at the plane?
Sometimes. Whether a chauffeured car can drive onto the ramp depends on the FBO and the airport's security rules. Aircraft management company Solairus Aviation notes that at some FBOs, ground transportation can wait ramp-side as passengers step off.
At PVD, ramp access is controlled. Atlantic Aviation requires an escort for outside vendors, such as maintenance and cleaning crews, who lack a PVD security badge, and it has charged a fee for that escort since October 1, 2025. If planeside pickup matters to you, ask the FBO what it allows for your car, then share the answer with your car service. If the ramp is off limits, your chauffeur meets you at the FBO instead.
What should you send your chauffeur before you fly?
Private schedules move. A few details, sent once, let your driver adjust without calling you mid-flight.
- Tail number and operator. A car service can then follow your actual arrival, not the original schedule.
- Airport and FBO name. "PVD" is not enough; name Atlantic Aviation, or FlightLevel at Quonset or Newport State.
- Estimated arrival time and the airport you are departing from.
- Passengers and luggage, including golf bags, skis, or sample cases, so the right vehicle is sent.
- The lead passenger's mobile number, plus who to contact if the flight diverts.
- Every stop after landing: hotel, office, dinner, and any return time.
- Your return trip. If your wheels-up time is known, book the ride back at the same time.

Plan around Rhode Island's busiest weekends
Big events fill FBO ramps. Atlantic Aviation expects extra ramp congestion at PVD around the Navy vs. Notre Dame game, October 30 to November 1. It also flags the NFL game dates remaining this season: November 8, December 6, December 10, January 3, and January 10. On those dates, book your car when you book the flight, and give your chauffeur a firm arrival window.
Private flying is growing overall. Argus International's 2026 Mid-Year Report, as reported by AIN, found North American business aircraft activity rose 3.5% year over year in the first half of 2026. Light jet flying grew fastest, up 6.1%.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an FBO?
A fixed-base operator, or FBO, is the private terminal that serves business and private aircraft at an airport. It handles fueling and ground services, offers a passenger lounge, and is where your chauffeur picks you up. In Rhode Island, Atlantic Aviation runs the FBO at PVD, and FlightLevel Aviation runs the FBOs at Quonset and Newport State.
Can I clear customs at PVD on a private flight?
Yes. Atlantic Aviation lists customs clearance on the ramp at its PVD facility. If you are arriving from outside the U.S. into Quonset or Newport State, confirm customs arrangements with your operator before you file your flight plan, and tell your car service where you will clear.
What are the FBO hours at PVD?
Atlantic Aviation PVD lists hours of 5 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week, with on-call service available by prior arrangement. If you expect to land outside those hours, arrange it with the FBO in advance and give your car service the same arrival time.
Can a jet land at Newport State Airport?
It depends on the aircraft. Newport State's longer runway is just under 3,000 feet, far shorter than Quonset's 7,500 feet or PVD's 8,700 feet. Your pilot or charter operator makes the final call, so confirm the airport before you plan ground transportation around it.
Is there a minimum fare for car services in Rhode Island?
Yes. Rhode Island's DPUC sets a minimum charge of $40 for any public motor vehicle trip, whatever the distance. Each company sets its own prices above that minimum and must quote the charge before the ride is booked.
